Pre-Op Instructions 

Here are some general guidelines that will help you and your family prepare for your visit to the Grand Island Surgery Center:

  • Bring your driver’s license and insurance card(s) with you
  • Do not eat or drink anything 6 hours prior to your surgery (including gum, water, etc.)
  • Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes and slip-on shoes.
  • Do not wear jewelry, bring money, credit cards or any other valuables with you unless advised to do so.
  • Wearing contact lenses is not advised. If you require your lenses in order to complete paperwork, please bring them.
  • Arrange for someone to drive you home and spend your recovery night with you, unless otherwise instructed. If transportation is a problem for you, please let us know ahead of time and we will make special arrangements for you.
  • If you become ill, even with a minor cold, or take any new medication prior to surgery, notify your doctor immediately.
  • Contact your physician prior to taking any aspirin products.


Patients Rights 

Effective health care requires collaboration between patients, physicians and other health care professionals. Grand Island Surgery Center respects the rights of patients and their families receiving care in our facility.

  • The patient is fully informed of his/her rights and responsibilities
  • The patient has the right to appropriate and professional care relating to physicians orders.
  • The patient has the right of choice of care providers.
  • The patient has the right to receive information necessary to give informed consent prior to the start of the procedure to treatment.
  • The patient has the right to refuse treatment within the confines of the law and to be informed of the consequences of his/her actions.
  • The patient has the right to data privacy and confidentiality.
  • The patient has the right to voice grievances and suggest changes in service or staff.
  • The patient has the right to be fully informed of the agency policies and charges for services.


Patients Responsibilities

Here at Grand Island Surgery Center we ask that review our patients responsibilities list. If you have additional questions please ask.

  • Being considerate of other patients and personnel and for assisting in the control of noise, smoking and other distractions.
  • Respecting the property of others and the facility.
  • Reporting whether he or she clearly understands the planned course of treatment and what is expected of him or her.
  • Keeping appointment, and when unable to do so for any reason, for notifying the facility and physician.
  • Providing caregivers with the most accurate and complete information regarding present complaints, past illness and hospitalizations, medications, unexpected changes in the patient’s condition or any other patient health matters.
  • Observing prescribed rules of the facility during his or her stay and treatment and if instructions are no followed, forfeiting the right to care at the facility and being responsible for the outcome.
  • Promptly fulfilling his or her financial obligations to the facility.
